Bokora Corridor Wildlife – best Uganda safari destination
The Bokora Corridor Wildlife conservation is located in northeastern Part of Uganda covering an area of 205600 ha ( 794 sq mi ) and is marked as the second largest wildlife reserve in Uganda was gazetted in 1964. The Park is part of the wider Semi-arid Karamoja Wildlife conservation region, The reserve derives its name from one of the ethnic divisions of the karamojong. “Bakora ” these people live close to the Bokora Corridor wildlife reserve. The reserve has it most amazing features as Mount Kadam and mount Napaka and also comprised of dry plains with savannah grasslands, shrubs, short tree and bush, The reserve is blessed with scenic landscape and wildlife species like Spotted cheetahs, Hartebeests, Elands, Spotted Hyenas, Rothschild’s Giraffes, Leopards, Roan antelopes, Uganda Kob, Zebras and Topis. The reserve is also a habitant to various bird species and they can best spotted at Loporokocho swamp such as Thick-billed Honeyguide, White-headed Buffalo weaver , Jackson’s Hornbills, Lemon Dove, Grey-shrike, Hartlaub’s turaco, Eastern Bravo-napped pigeons, Black-throated Wattle-eye and so many others. The best time to visit is all year round. During the wet season the roads that lead there can be in poor conditions, the rainy season happens in the months of April-May and November leading to growth of green vegetation and beautiful scenery. The dry season is the best time to visit the area because the roads are accessible, dry months start from june- September and December to February unfortunately the heat can be unbearably hard to contain because of too much sunshine in the dry season. Activities to expect on reaching the park: Game drives, Nature walks, camping and bird watching, visiting the karamojong people. Accommodations in the reserve, Camping is the best option especially for those who love adventure, you get an opportunity to spend time in true African Wilderness, and also you can sleep in hotels in the nearest towns of Moroto and Kotido. The Uganda Wildlife Authority is planning to build some lodges within the reserve soon.
